OctoPrint Integration
Printago connects to printers running behind OctoPrint over your local network, using OctoPrint's REST API. This is the route for Marlin and RepRap printers that don't have a network API of their own, such as Creality Ender and CR machines, older Prusa i3s, Anycubic Kobra, Vyper and i3 Mega, Artillery, and many more. The connection runs through the Printago Fuse LAN client.
Before you start, install and activate Printago Fuse on a computer or Docker host on the same network as your OctoPrint server.
Before You Start
- Make sure OctoPrint is connected to the printer. Open OctoPrint in a browser and check that its connection panel shows the printer as connected. If OctoPrint can't talk to the printer, Printago shows it as offline.
- Create an API key. In OctoPrint, open Settings → API and copy the global API key, or create a per-user Application Key for Printago.
- Note the OctoPrint address. This is the host name or IP you use to open OctoPrint, for example
octopi.localor192.168.1.42, plus the port if it isn't the default. OctoPi images serve OctoPrint on port 80. Give the host a static IP or DHCP reservation so it doesn't change.
Connect Through Fuse
- In Fuse, open the Printers page and click Add Printer.
- Find your printer:
- If your model is in the list, pick it (by brand tile or by searching for the model). Models that run stock Marlin firmware, for example a Creality Ender 3 or a Sovol SV06, open the OctoPrint form automatically.
- Otherwise, type
OctoPrintin the search box and choose OctoPrint ("Any Marlin/RepRap printer via OctoPrint").
- In the Add OctoPrint Printer dialog, fill in the connection details:
- Printer Name: a friendly name (e.g. "Ender 3 #2")
- Host / IP Address: the OctoPrint host (e.g.
octopi.localor192.168.1.42) - Port:
80by default - API Key: the key from Settings → API in OctoPrint
- Use HTTPS: tick this only if you open OctoPrint over
https://
- Click Test Connection. On success, Fuse shows the OctoPrint version it found.
- Click Add Printer. The printer appears in your Printago fleet within a few seconds.
Your OctoPrint API key is stored only by your local Fuse client to talk to OctoPrint; it is never sent to the Printago cloud.
Re-adding a printer you already have
OctoPrint doesn't report a hardware serial number, so Printago can't tell on its own that a printer you're adding is one it already knows. If you're setting a printer up again (for example on a new Fuse install), choose Link existing printer at the top of the dialog and pick it from Existing printer to update. Fuse attaches the new connection details to that printer instead of creating a duplicate, so its history and settings carry over.
What You Can Do
Once connected, an OctoPrint printer works like any other printer in Printago:
- Slice in the cloud and send jobs straight to the printer. Fuse uploads the sliced GCODE to OctoPrint and starts the print
- Route print jobs across your whole fleet automatically
- Monitor status, temperatures, progress, and time remaining
- Pause, resume, and stop prints
- Set nozzle and bed temperatures, home and move the axes, and set the part cooling fan from the printer control panel
- Run GCODE macros, because OctoPrint accepts raw GCODE
Limitations
OctoPrint runs on a huge variety of hardware, so Printago treats every OctoPrint printer as a single-nozzle machine with one bed and one filament spool:
- No camera streaming. Printago doesn't show OctoPrint webcams.
- No filament detection. Printago can't read what's loaded, so assign the material to the printer's spool yourself. See Materials.
- No multi-material units or second tool.
- No skipping objects mid-print.
- Firmware version shows the OctoPrint server version rather than the printer's firmware.
Troubleshooting
If the printer won't connect:
- Open OctoPrint in a browser from the machine running Fuse, using the same host and port you entered.
- Double-check the API key under Settings → API in OctoPrint.
- Tick Use HTTPS only if OctoPrint is served over
https://. - If Printago shows the printer offline while OctoPrint itself is reachable, reconnect OctoPrint to the printer from OctoPrint's connection panel.
- Use Test Connection in the dialog to see the specific error.
