Classwork
Classwork turns your Printago store into a teaching space. Write lessons with formatted text, attach worksheets and images, add reference links, and assign each lesson to the students who should see it. Students get a clean, distraction-free reader that shows only the classwork assigned to them.
Classwork is a free addon. Enable it from the Addons page, then open Classwork in the sidebar under the Education section.
Setting up Printago for a whole school? See Setting Up Printago for Education for how teacher and student accounts fit together, and whether instructors should each have their own account or share one.
Roles: teachers and students
Classwork uses two permissions:
- classwork.editor lets someone create and edit classwork, upload files, and assign students. Store owners and admins have this automatically. Think of it as the teacher permission.
- classwork.viewer lets someone read the classwork assigned to them. Users with the Viewer or Student role have this automatically. Think of it as the student permission.
To bring students into your class, invite them to your store from Users and give them the Student role. This role appears in the role list once the Classwork addon is enabled. Students see the lessons you assign to them (after you publish them), can open the parts those lessons reference, and can slice and queue those parts on your printers. They can cancel or remove only their own jobs, and they cannot reorder the queue, control printers, change settings, or download part files. Use the Viewer role instead if your students should only look, not print.
Creating a classwork item
Open Classwork in the sidebar and click New Item. Each item has:
- Code - a short identifier, like a SKU (for example "LAB-01"). Codes are unique within your store.
- Title and summary - what students see in their list.
- Body - the lesson itself, in a rich-text editor. Use the toolbar for headings, bold, italics, underline, lists, quotes, code blocks, and links, or paste straight from Google Docs or Word and the formatting comes along. Images and tables are not kept in the body; attach images as files instead.
- Links - external references (websites, videos, documentation). You can paste a full address or just the domain and path, like
example.com/guide; a link withouthttps://orhttp://in front is saved ashttp://. - Parts - the parts from your library that students should print for this lesson. Click
Add a Partand pick one from the searchable list, then type an optional note next to it, such as "print at 0.2mm". Students get anOpen & printbutton for every part listed here. Moving or deleting a part later shows a reminder on the part page naming the lessons that reference it. - Files - attachments students can download. Supported formats: TXT, MD, DOCX, JPG, and PNG, up to 25 MB per file. Drag a file onto the drop zone or click to select one.
- Assigned Students - pick which students see this item. Only users with the classwork.viewer permission are listed. Changes are saved when you click
Savefor the item, including for a brand new item.
Use Preview as Student in the header to see exactly what a student will see before you publish.
Draft and published
Every item starts as a draft. Students never see drafts, even when assigned. When the lesson is ready, switch it to Published and it appears for the assigned students immediately. Switch it back to draft any time to hide it again without losing the assignments.
Organizing with folders
Classwork has its own folder tree, separate from parts and SKUs. Create folders for classes or units (for example "Period 3 - Engineering") using New Folder, and move items between folders from the list. Students see the same folder tree in their reader, trimmed to the folders that hold lessons assigned to them.
Assigning students in bulk
From the classwork list, select one or more items and choose Assign to Students from the Actions menu. A ticked student ends up on every selected item and an unticked one is removed from all of them. When only some of the selected items have a student, that student shows a dash; leave the dash to keep each item as it is. The Assigned column shows how many students each item has; items nobody can see yet show a "Not assigned" badge.
What students see
Students open Classwork from the sidebar and get a two-pane reader: their assigned lessons on the left, in your folder tree, and the selected lesson on the right with its formatted text, links, parts to print, and file downloads. Open & print on a part takes the student to that part, where they can slice it and add it to your queue like any other job. Students cannot create, edit, or delete anything, and they cannot see drafts, unassigned items, or other students' assignments.
Knowing who printed what
Every job in the Print Queue shows who queued it, so a class's jobs are easy to tell apart: a student's jobs carry their email, and jobs queued through an API key carry the key's name. Open the queue and look for the chip next to the part name.
